  2. Hello all,
Attention ! It is a contaminated land and it is most surprising that how Western Hospital has purchased this land. Did they now it is a contaminated land. Now work is going on this contaminated land and underneath soil is exposed which is potential risk to health. PLEASE call EPA Victoria and Work Safe Victoria immediately and the truth will come out. Did Council and Western Hospital have ever discussed about this issue and have taken proper protection of local residents before opening this site? Did Local Resident knows that this land is a contaminated land. To verify my views please management of this website call EPA and test the soil. Truth will come out.

  4. Dear residents,
This is continued appalling treatment of residents by what is a bully council that has its priorities all wrong.
This council has a reputation for serving only these interests first – Political parties encompassing essentially the Labor party which this council has been dominated by, developers, commercial groups such as Highpoint Management, Bunnings and Western General hospital. It is well known to many of us that residents come last in this council’s level of priorities. These other interests are more commercially opportune and an avenue to undertake capital works the council feels either it cannot fund or save on such capital works.
We here in Waterford Green opposed development of several skyscrapers at 62 Wests Road incorporating over 370 apartments with the tallest being 19 stories. Needless to say we residents opposed it due to overdevelopment, it being way out of character to what is already here and adding further stress to the poor infrastructure this council promotes. This council says we need to pay virtually the highest rates in Victoria to pay for things like aged infrastructure but encourages developers to build the maximum projects they can get away with.
Like yourselves, the council only contacted afew of us surrounding this scandalous project but word of mouth quickly had us respond with over 120 objections. BUT the council played its usual dirty tactics. Councillors played a charade where they said they objected to the development but supported their Manager Urban Planning, Steve Lionakis who worked with the developer to get the project through in its entirety. Mr Lionakis sat with the developer at VCAT who approved the project in its entirety and VCAT members said they were surprised Maribyrnong Council did not have height overlay controls or planning restrictions protecting the neighbouring area against developments of this nature.
In other words, council employed an urban planner who knows the requirements of preventing developers building their projects to the max and knew the necessary controls were not in place to restrict the scale of this development.
Mr Lionakis came with a controversial history as he approved the out of character Lombard development tower at the end of Mt Alexander Road end at the entrance to the Tullamarine freeway angering Moonee Valley residents (he previously worked for Moonee Valley Council) and had previously worked with developers before. Residents ask if this chap was getting kickbacks from the developer ? This is exactly the sort of people our council wish to employ as they help push through the worst developments in terms of scale and improper character possible.
This is but a snapshot of the disgusting behaviour of this council and a good example of why you were treated with contempt by them. The council had already decided to help Western Health build that access road through your street without properly consulting you and conducted sham consultation meetings with people who would protest least, that is anyone not directly in Eleanor street. This is vintage Maribyrnong council tactics placing the needs of residents last.
This council does not truly represent the interests of the people that are of the most importance - the residents. Although many of us would like this council to amalgamate with neighbouring councils or have an administrator called in, not enough of us have a unified voice to develop a plan to expose the behaviour of this council to critical parties such as Jeanette Powell, Local Government Minister and the State Ombudsman.
Unless you seriously bring this council’s unrepresentative behaviour toward residents to some of the key stakeholders I mentioned above, we will only get more of the same disgusting performance from them

    Robert Wiatrowski.
